In reply to <a href="https://dailymilk.com/2012/09/11/10-tips-for-photographing-children-beach/#comment-43">Angelina</a>.

Hi Angelina,

Thank you for your comment! I was originally trying to keep the tips very simple so beginner's were not easily confused, however that's a great tip regarding exposure compensation. I also didn't realize you could get bokeh from an f4 or f9 at the beach when shooting portraits, I will have to try that out! I have to imagine the background blur still wouldn't be as good as an f/2 though, right?

Fun tips for families! Can I also suggest that if you are shooting AV vs. manual mode that you experiment with your exposure compensation. Increasing exposure compensation by a half stop or more will "compensate" for the fact that your in-camera meter is confused by the sky and sand at the beach and tends to give us a darker subject than we would like. Also, this is one case where a wide app is generally not really necessary. When there is sand, sky or ocean as backdrop and they are several feet from any real reference point, you can get great bokeh at f4, even f9! (shocking, I know!) So, Shutter priority can actually make more sense for "semi-auto" shooters at the beach. :)
